General Information
In 1981, Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 20 was founded
by 50 Vietnam Veterans looking to make a difference in the
Rochester area. The following year, the VVA Chapter 20 Thrift
Store was founded and remains to this day a model for their
national organization and the only independently owned and
operated Vietnam Veterans business of its kind.
The innovations have just continued. In 1985, the vehicle
donation program was formed and their long standing commitment
to Monroe County Special Olympics was also established.
As a past recipient of the Harris Award from the Veterans
Outreach Center for Outstanding Commitment and Dedication, this
chapter continues to not only help but provide significant funds
to veterans and community service groups alike in our community
day after day, every year since it's inception. From providing
funds to help keep their national organization going in the
early 1980s to assisting the Veterans Outreach Center and the
Vietnam Veterans Memorial of Greater Rochester at Highland Park
as well as the Pirate Toy Fund, the Boy Scouts and various
community-wide scholarships, the Vietnam Veterans of America
Chapter 20 continue to cement their perpetual commitment to our
community and the things we all hold dear.
